CCC Announces 2019 Golf All-CCC Teams

GOLF ALL-CCC AWARD HISTORY

 

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced the 2019 Golf All-Conference teams and major award winners on Thursday morning. Student-athletes from five of the six CCC golf teams were named All-CCC honorees.

Western New England's Ryan Zogby (Higganum, Conn.) was the medalist at CCC Championship and was voted the CCC Golfer of the Year. Roger Williams freshman Ben DeFelice (Warwick, R.I.) took home the Rookie of the Year award as the league's top first-year golfer. Endicott's Carter Knox (Hinesburg, Vt.) was named the CCC Scholar-Athlete, while his head coach, Tom Smith earned Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in six years. The Gulls were also the recipients of the Team Sportsmanship award.

Voting for the All-CCC teams and each of the major awards was conducted by the conference's six golf head coaches in the week following the CCC Spring Championship.

Zogby and Knox both earned spots on the All-CCC First Team. Knox's Endicott teammate Christopher Billings (Portland, Maine) was also a First Teamer. Nichols was the other school with multiple All-CCC First Team selections as Patrick Hesseltine (Westford, Mass.) and Reece McLeod (Leicester, Mass.) both earned spots. Roger Williams' Ryan Burrill (Southington, Conn.) rounded out the First Team.

Endicott and Nichols both also had pairs of All-CCC Second Teamers. Connor Brown (Granby, Conn.) and Kenneth Tuttle (Gorham, Maine) represented the Gulls and TJ Barber (Cornish, N.H.) and Jacob Willis (Greenfield, Mass.) represented the Bison. Dylan Andrews (Northwood, N.H.) earned an All-Conference spot as the University of New England's honoree and Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) from WNE completed the All-CCC Second Team.

 

 

GOLFER OF THE YEAR

Ryan Zogby, Western New England

Zogby, last year's CCC Rookie of the Year, continued his excellence on the course in year two. He posted a 74.7 stroke average and finished in the top five at six events. Two of those events were the two conference events. He finished third at the CCC Qualifier with a 75 (+3) before earning medalist recognition at the CCC Championship with at 146 (+2). He also turned in an event-best 70 (-2) in his second round on the course. In addition to his success in conference tournaments, Zogby was the runner up at the Elms College Invitational, RIC Men's Spring Invitational, and the Westport Hampton Inn Invitational, while finishing in tie for fifth at the NEIGA Championship. He was a three time CCC Golfer of the Week this year in the weeks ending October 7, April 7, and April 21.


ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Ben DeFelice, Roger Williams

DeFelice played in 10 rounds at six events this year for the Hawks, including both CCC tournaments this year. He shot 81 (9+) at the CCC Qualifier to place tied for 19th, while finishing in a tie for 10th at the CCC Championship with a 36-hole score of 156 (+12). He had a 80.0 stroke average and placed in the top 10 at two events. He tied for fifth at the MCLA invitational and tied for 10th at the CCC Championship.

CCC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE

Carter Knox, Endicott

Knox, a business management major with a minor in communication, has made Dean's List for six semesters and is a two-time CCC Academic All-Conference member. He currently sports a 3.79 GPA and has take full advantage of experiential learning opportunities. He completed a semester-long internship with ProQuip USA in marketing and sales, having previously interned at Revision Military in the digital marketing communications department and at Parisi Speed School in the marketing department. On the course, he posted a 76.31 stroke average in 16 rounds and was the individual runner-up at the CCC Championship with a 36-hole score of 147 (+3).

COACH OF THE YEAR

Tom Smith, Endicott

Smith earns his fifth CCC Coach of the Year honor after leading the Endicott to the 2019 CCC Golf Championship. The Gulls finished in the top-three in four of the nine events they competed in this year, including both CCC tournaments. They finished third in the CCC Qualifier and sat in third in the CCC Championship after one round. However, they were able to come-from-behind to claim the 2019 CCC title. Smith and the Gulls are set to travel to Nicholasville, Ky. for 2019 NCAA DIII Men's Golf Championships.

The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), founded in 1984, is an NCAA Division III athletic conference comprised of nine full member and one associate member institutions throughout the New England region. Its membership aims to provide student-athletes with a positive experience in their pursuit of excellence through high academic standards, quality competition, and a meaningful student life. The conference administers championships in 18 intercollegiate sports.
