Salve Regina Heads to Trinity (Conn.) for NCAA Baseball Regional Play

REGIONAL BRACKETS | NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS —Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Baseball Tournament Champion Salve Regina (27-16, 8-6 CCC) will travel to Trinity (Conn.) (27-7, 8-4 NESCAC) for 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship regional play and will open the tournament against the hosts on Friday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m.

The full 58-team field was announced Monday afternoon during the NCAA.com Selection show.

The Seahawks were one of forty institutions to gain entry to this year’s championship by winning their conference’s automatic qualifier. Salve’s path to the conference title was not the simplest as it dropped its tournament opener, putting it on the brink of elimination. However, the Seahawks rattled off four straight wins to earn a spot in the CCC Championship Series. They then dropped the first game of best-of-three series against No. 2 seed Roger Williams before coming back to win games two and three and clinch the conference title.

Trinity was one of 16 teams to earn a “Pool C” at-large bid into the tournament. The Bantams needed an at-large entry after failing to qualify for the four-team New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).

The two other teams in the four-team regional are Babson (33-7, 15-2 NEWMAC) and Keystone (25-14, 14-1 CSAC). They will play each other at 11 a.m. on Friday. The Beavers also gained entry into this year’s tournament with a Pool C berth after being eliminated from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament by MIT in the championship round. Keystone was the automatic qualifier out of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).

Trinity is one of sixteen regional sites with the winners of each of those tournaments advancing to eight super regionals Friday-Saturday, May 24-25. The super regionals will be best-of-three series. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Friday-Tuesday/Wednesday, May 31-June 4/5, 2019.
