CCC Men's Basketball Athletes of the Week #7

Player of the Week

Marcos Echevarria, Nichols (Sr., G)

Senior guard Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) averaged 29.0 points per game this weekend at the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic. He also pitched in 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He opened the Classic with a 30-point game in a 79-73 win over Eastern Connecticut State before dropping 28 points in a loss to No. 22 Salisbury, Nichols' first loss of the season. Echevarria also became the Bison's all-time leading scorer this weekend scoring his 2107th point in the first half on Sunday (Dec. 30). His point total also ranks him second on the CCC all-time scoring list (based on available records). He shot 54.1 percent (20-for-37) in the Classic.

Rookie of the Week

Mikey Spencer, Salve Regina (Fr., F)

Salve Regina's Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) played all but one minute against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in the Seahawk's only game of the week. He scored 19 points on 6-for-11 (54.5 percent) shooting, while also grabbing four rebounds and handing out one assist. Spencer also had one steal and one block in the contest.
