Baseball

Other 2017 Baseball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Endicott second baseman Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) had an outstanding week at the plate. DeDonato had a slash line of .481/.517/.704 to go along with 10 runs scored, 13 hits, three doubles, one homerun, and six RBI. The junior was also an impressive 9-for-9 in stolen base opportunities. He helped the Gulls go 7-0 this week by compiling four multi-hit games, which included his standout performance against Roger Williams in which he went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three stolen bases.

Pitcher of the Week - Junior pitcher Kevin Jones (Pembroke, Mass.) helped Curry take down powerhouse Salve Regina. Jones came in for relief and threw four innings in the game where he contributed to the shutout. The junior gave up two hits but struck out two and walked only one to earn his first victory of the season. His pitching efforts helped secure the victory, which was the only time Salve was blanked the entire season.

Rookie of the Week - Endicott freshman, Joseph Oriola (Sandwich, Mass.) had a phenomenal week on the mound. The young rookie helped the Gulls win all three of their games this week by making appearances in all of them. For the week, Oriola had a 2.16 ERA over eight innings, gave up four hits, two runs (all earned), zero walks, and a team-high 13 strikeouts. In the Gulls game against Gordon, the freshman pitched five innings giving up only three hits, two earned runs, had zero walks with six strikeouts. He followed up that performance against Roger Williams on Saturday pitching 2 1/3 innings and striking out six batters, while giving up only one hit.

Golf

Other 2017 Golf Athlete of the Week Winners

Golfer/Rookie of the Week - Freshman Patrick Hesseltine (Westford, Mass.) had an incredible weekend for Nichols at the CCC Golf Championship held at Twin Hills Country Club. He finished as the tournament’s medalist shooting a 143 (+1) over 36 holes. On day two of the Championship, Hesseltine carded a 68 (-3), which was the only score below par the entire weekend.

Men's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Senior Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.) scored 15 points this week for the University of New England. Ten of those points came in the Nor’easters’ final regular-season game against Curry. In that game, Auger recorded four goals and six assists. In his team’s next contest, a CCC Tournament Quarterfinal against No. 6 seed Nichols, the CCC Offensive Player of the Year scored three goals and had two assists.

Defensive Player of the Week - University of New England goalkeeper David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) picked up two wins in the cage this week. He made 12 saves on 20 shots against Curry to close out the regular season. He then made six more saves in UNE’s CCC Tournament Quarterfinal against No. 6 seed Nichols. Overall Pearson had a 50 percent save percentage and a 9.43 goals-against average.

Specialist of the Week - Endicott’s Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) had another big day at the faceoff X this week. He won 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) chances in the Gulls’ 15-4 win over Gordon. The senior also collected a game-high 13 ground balls.

Rookie of the Week - Curry freshman Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) played a huge role in the Colonels’ road playoff victory against No. 4 seed Roger Williams on Saturday. He scored two goals in the contest including a late tally that broke an 8-8 tie and would prove to be the game-winner. He also had four ground balls in that contest.

Women's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Nichole Carvalho (South Kingstown, R.I.) helped the University of New England to a pair of wins this week, including a victory in the first round of the CCC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament. In her final tune-up for the playoffs, Carvalho recorded five goals on five shots against Curry. She followed that up with three goals and three assists for six points in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals against No. 6 seed Western New England.

Defensive Player of the Week - University of New England defender Jolena Lampron (Lyman, Maine) had a strong defensive week for the Nor’easters. She had four ground balls and three caused turnovers in her team’s final regular-season game against Curry before recovering seven ground balls and causing three turnovers in UNE’s CCC Quarterfinal win over No. 6 seed Western New England.

Rookie of the Week - Endicott freshman Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) scored five goals this week as the Gulls went 1-1. Two of her tallies came in her team’s regular-season finisher against Gordon. She then added a hat trick in a non-conference loss to Babson. Lacroix was also strong in the possession game as she recorded six draw controls, had two ground balls, and one caused turnover in the two contests.

Softball

Other 2017 Softball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Endicott senior Julia McNeill (Smithtown, N.Y.), helped her Gulls go 3-1 for the week. Her standout performance came against Eastern Nazarene when she made history becoming the 12th student-athlete in NCAA Division III Softball history to ever hit two homers in the same frame. The last time it occurred was in the 2012 season. McNeil bombed two in the fourth inning of Game 2 on Friday against the Lions. The outfielder tallied seven hits, with four RBI, three walks, and five runs scored in a four-game week. Through the week McNeil had a batting average of .636, .714 on-base percentage, and 1.273 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week - CCC Pitcher of the Year, Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.), had another standout week. The senior tossed two complete-game shutouts, which included a CCC postseason win over Endicott to advance Salve Regina to the winner’s bracket. Boarman only gave up six hits for the week but compensated by striking out six.

Rookie of the Week - In the one game week for Western New England freshman Aimee Kistner (Taunton, Mass.) helped her team secure the win. Kitsner led the Golden Bears to a 9-3 victory over Roger Williams in the CCC Tournament opener on Saturday, which advances them the winner’s bracket. The rookie went 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a double, and four runs scored. In the circle, Kitsner tossed six innings and gave up six hits, while allowing three earned runs. Later in the game, she found her groove and retired the next nine batters with three strikeouts and a scoreless sixth inning.

Men's Tennis

Other 2017 Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Junior Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) had a perfect 4-0 week for Roger Williams playing No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. First in the Hawks regular-season finale against Salve Regina, Rosenberg won his doubles match 8-0. He then went on for a straight set victory in singles. In the CCC Tournament Quarterfinals, Rosenberg’s team edged out Endicott’s top pair, 9-7, in doubles. His singles match took him to a third set tie-break where he was victorious.

Rookie of the Week - Roger Williams freshman Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) picked up wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles this week. He did not drop a game in his doubles match against Salve Regina in the team’s regular season finale. He fell only once in singles play. In the Hawks CCC Tournament Quarterfinal against Endicott, White won a three-set match against Endicott’s No. 1.
