Baseball

Other 2017 Baseball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Endicott’s Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) helped his team to a 3-3 week with a .458/.519/.875 slash line this week. Six of his 11 hits went for extra bases as he collected four doubles and two home runs. He also scored five runs and drove in seven. Kochiss had four multi-hit games this week, including a 4-for-5 performance against Wesleyan. Four of his five runs were also scored in that game.

Pitcher of the Week - Curry’s Brian Burke (Swampscott, Mass.) pitched a gem in a conference win over Gordon on Saturday (April 15). The senior hurler allowed just three hits and one walk in seven shutout innings. He also sent 10 Fighting Scots back to the bench via strikeout.

Rookie of the Week - Nichols freshman Kyle Bouchard (Fall River, Mass.) was a big part of the Bison’s 3-0 week. He recorded hits in all three games and batted .357 (5-for-14). His biggest game came against St. Joseph’s (Me.) as he went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Bouchard also hit his first-career big fly this week as he smashed a three-run knock in the top of the first against Worcester State. Overall this week, the freshman had four runs scored and six runs driven in.

Golf

Other 2017 Golf Athlete of the Week Winners

Golfer of the Week - Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) claimed medalist honors with a plus-two 74 as Western New England finished first at the Rich Korzac Invitational to open its spring season. Ciolek also posted an 81 during the Golden Bears’ two tournament week as the his team also grabbed the top prize at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational.

Rookie of the Week - Patrick Hesseltine (Westford, Mass.) played to a ninth place finish at the Rich Korzec Invitational on Tuesday (April 11). The freshman hit a plus-seven 79 to help Nichols to a sixth place team finish. Hesseltine continues to lead all Nichols golfers with a 79 stroke-average.

Men's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Senior attack Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) registered nine goals and four assists in a pair of conference wins for Endicott. Jennings registered two goals in the Gulls’ narrow, 10-9 victory over Salve Regina before falling just one point shy of his career-best with 11 points (seven goals, four assists) in a 20-11 rout of Curry. Jennings took 25 shots over the two contests and put 68 percent of them on-target.

Defensive Player of the Week - Junior Grant Thompson (South Hamilton, Mass.) picked up two conference wins this week for Endicott. He made 10 saves in a 10-9 win over Salve Regina on Tuesday (April 11), before stopping eight shots in 45 minutes of work against Curry on Saturday (April 15). Thompson compiled a 9.14 goals against average and a 52.9 save percentage this week.

Specialist of the Week - Faceoff specialist Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) continued to dominate at the X for Endicott this week. He won 44 of 55 (80.0 percent) face offs. He opened the week with a 20-for-22 showing against Salve Regina and followed that up by going 24-for-33 against Curry. The senior midfielder also scooped up 32 ground balls, including a career-best 21 against the Colonels.

Rookie of the Week - Endicott’s Will Clark (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) set new career-highs this week in goals, assists, and points. He did all his damage against Curry on Saturday (April 15) with three goals, three assists, and six points. Clark also scooped up four ground balls and caused one turnover.

Women's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Senior Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.) had a 12-point week for Endicott as the Gulls claimed two decisive victories. First, she registered four goals and one assist in a conference win over Salve Regina. She followed that up with five goals and two assists in a non-conference decision over Emerson. All 12 shots Whitney took this week were on-goal.

Defensive Player of the Week - Curry’s Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) had a well-rounded week for the Colonels. She scored three goals and an assist in her team’s 11-10 win against Framingham State. She also had a strong defensive showing collecting four ground balls, three draw controls, and causing nine turnovers. Three of her caused turnovers came in the final seven minutes of play as the Rams were searching for the tying goal.

Rookie of the Week - Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) had another strong showing for Endicott this week. She scored nine points, while also securing 14 draws controls, collecting four ground balls, and causing one turnover. Six of her points came in a conference win against Salve Regina when she scored four goals and dished out two assists.

Softball

Other 2017 Softball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Salve Regina’s Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.) helped her team solidify its spot at the top of the Conference standings with a 5-1 week in league play. She batted .545 (6-for-11) with four RBI and three runs scored. She had hits in all, but one of the Seahawks’ contests and had multiple hits in two of them. The sophomore also had two stolen bases.

Pitcher of the Week - Salve Regina senior Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) made four appearances in the circle this week and posted a 0.66 ERA in 21.1 innings of work. Two of those appearances were complete game victories, one against Roger Williams and the other against the University of New England. She also picked up a save in game two of the doubleheader against Roger Williams. For the week, she gave up just two earned runs and struck out 10.

Rookie of the Week - Nichols freshman Jessica Kuelling (Gales Ferry, Conn.) picked up hits in all four games for the Bison this week. She hit .583 (7-for-12), while driving in six and scoring three times. Her best performance of the week came in game two of a doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene. She went 3-for-3 with three doubles, three RBI, and a run scored.

Men's Tennis

Other 2017 Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Winners


Player of the Week - Sophomore Blake Norton (Stratford, Conn.) picked up two wins in Nichols’s 6-3 conference victory over Endicott this week. He nabbed a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-2) at No. 1 singles and secured an 8-6 win in the No. 1 doubles spot.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman Brandon Howard (Hamden, Conn.) was part of two wins in Nichols’s 6-3 conference result against Endicott. He was part of the No. 1 doubles team that knocked off the Gulls’ top pair, 8-6. He then won at No. 2 singles, earning the 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victory.
