Baseball

Other 2017 Baseball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Outfielder Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) hit .455/.500/.818 for Endicott in a 1-2 week. He collected hits in each of the Gulls’ three games including two multi-hit performances. In game one of a CCC doubleheader against Eastern Nazarene, Casciano hit his first collegiate home run to help his team to a 4-0 win. The junior also had a double against Bates in non-conference action. Casiano scored two runs and drove in two others this week, while handling all five chances he had in the outfield.

Pitcher of the Week - Junior Jimmy Fitzgerald (Canton, Mass.) tossed a seven-inning shutout over No. 22/30 Western New England to open Salve Regina’s conference slate with a 1-0 win. The lefthander scattered five hits and walked two, while fanning nine in the complete game victory.

Rookie of the Week - Salve Regina’s Patrick Maybach (Kingstown, R.I.) continued to impress in his second start for the Seahawks. He threw seven innings of shutout ball to earn the win in a non-conference matchup with Keene State. He struck out 10 batters, while walking none and allowing just five hits. The lefthander was also able to pick off two baserunners.

Other 2017 Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Senior attack Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) recorded a pair of hat tricks for Endicott in a 1-1 week for the Gulls. Jennings factored into six of Endicott’s tallies in a close 12-10 loss to No. 10 Amherst. He scored three goals and dished out three assists. Later in the week he brought his weekly point total to ten with a three goals and an assist in his team’s CCC opener against Roger Williams, a 15-10 victory.

Defensive Player of the Week - Wentworth goalie Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) had an 8.81 goals-against average and a .625 save percentage as the Leopards went 1-1 this week. He opened the week with a 13-save showing against Lasell before willing his team to a 6-5 conference win in overtime with 17-saves against Salve Regina.

Specialist of the Week - Senior Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) had another impressive showing at the X this week. He was 39-for-53 (73.6 percent) overall and went 24-for-28 (85.7 percent) in Endicott’s 15-10 conference victory over Roger Williams. He also collected a game-high 17 ground balls in that contest and had 26 total ground balls for the week.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman midfielder Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) scored four goals for Curry in a 1-1 week. Three of those goals came in the Colonels conference opener against Gordon, a 15-8 result. The hat trick was the first of Stebbins’s young collegiate career and gave Curry its first win of the season. The first-year player also had eight ground balls this week.

Women's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Brooke Kelleher (Exeter, N.H.) set program records for points and assists in the University of New England’s CCC opener, a 21-11 win over Nichols. The senor attack recorded 14 points on six goals and eight assists in that contest. She also had a goal and an assist in a non-conference game against Bridgewater State bringing her weekly totals to 8 goals, nine assists, and 17 points.

Defensive Player of the Week - Sophomore goalkeeper Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) claimed her first collegiate win in her first collegiate start for Endicott as the Gulls knocked off Roger Williams in their conference opener. She made a career-high 10 saves in that game. Earlier in the week, she played the second half against No. 15 Bowdoin and made six saves, while allowing only three goals. She had a 7.33 goals-against average and a 59.3 save percentage this week.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman Megan Dutchyshyn (Cheshire, Conn.) was in instrumental part of Endicott’s conference win over Roger Williams. She scored five times and tallied one assist in that contest. The five goals were a career-high for Dutchyshyn. She also scored a goal and had an assist against Bowdoin earlier in the week.

Softball

Other 2017 Softball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Salve Regina junior Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) had three hits in each of the Seahawks’ 8-0 wins in their conference opening doubleheader against Gordon on Friday (March 24). She led off each game with an extra-base hit to help Salve get on the board early in both contests. Overall she batted .750 with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored, and three RBI. She also swiped three bases and made a pair of highlight reel plays at second base.

Pitcher of the Week - Senior Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) was strong in the circle for Salve Regina in a conference shutout over Gordon on Friday (March 24). She threw a six-inning complete game against the Fighting Scots, while surrendering only three hits and a walk. She also struck out nine in the 8-0 run-rule win.

Rookie of the Week - Curry’s Molly Horn (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) hit double and scored two runs as the Colonels swept Wentworth in a doubleheader to open conference play. The double came in her only plate appearance of the day in the back end of the twin bill.

Men's Tennis

Other 2017 Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Sophomore Blake Norton (Stratford, Conn.) went 3-1 for Nichols this week as the Bison came away with a pair of team victories. Norton picked up wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in a rematch of last year’s NCAA First Round matchup with Colby-Sawyer. He followed that up by picking up a win in the top singles spot in the Bison’s conference opener against Gordon.

Rookie of the Week - Brandon Howard (Hamden, Conn.) was 3-1 in Nichols’s two matches this week. Playing in the No. 2 singles spot, he picked up a straight-set win against Colby-Sawyer. He was also part of the Bison’s top doubles pair that nabbed an 8-6 win. Howard was slotted in the No. 3 singles spot in his team’s CCC opener against Gordon. He scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory in that match.
