Baseball

Other 2017 Baseball Athlete of the Week Winners


Player/Rookie of the WeekKyle Bouchard (Fall River, Mass.) had an incredible week for Nichols. He helped his team earn a 3-1 record, including a big win over regional powerhouse Wheaton. The first basemen had four-hit games in every contest the Bison played in this week and finished with 16 hits and 13 runs batted in in just four games. His impressive batting average (.680) currently makes him second in the country, while also leading the conference in RBI’s (13).

Pitcher of the Week - Freshman Patrick Maybach (North Kingstown, R.I.) made his debut for Salve Regina with a 3-0 win over Rochester Institute of Technology. The pitcher was one out away from a complete game, nine-inning no-hitter and only gave up two singles after 8.2 innings of play. Maybach struck out 11 and only walked one.

Other 2017 Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Reece O’Connor (North Grafton, Mass.) helped Nichols finish 2-0 for the week. O’Connor finished the week with four goals and five assists, earning a team-high of nine total points. The graduate student has come back after suffering two ACL tears in his career. Through his adversity, O’Connor still managed to be ranked third in the conference for goals and fifth for points.

Defensive Player of the Week - Senior goalkeeper, David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) helped the University of New England win, 8-7, over Colby. Thanks to his shutout in the fourth quarter, UNE made a comeback from a 7-5 deficit coming out of the third. He finished the game with an impressive 10 saves and a save percentage of 58.8 percent.

Specialist of the Week - Sean Conger (Holden, Mass.) helped the University of New England rally from being down 7-5 after the third quarter to Colby. He contributed by winning all four faceoffs in the fourth quarter. The senior was 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) overall on faceoffs during the game.

Rookie of the Week - Cole Fontana (Grafton, Mass.) tallied a team-high of seven goals and nine points in just two games for Nichols. His contributions helped his team roll past Salem State and UMass Boston this week, while maintaining their undefeated record. Fontana has the most goals in the conference for a freshman.

Women's Lacrosse

Other 2017 Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week Winners

Offensive Player of the Week - Senior Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) registered at least four points in each of the Curry’s three contests this week. She opened the season with a three-goal, one-assist showing in 15-9 win over Salem State. She picked up another hat trick in an 18-11 loss to Lasell, while also adding two helpers. She closed out the week with four goals and two assists in a dominating 18-2 win over Becker. Overall, Parker collected 15 points for the week, while putting 80 percent (20-of-25) of her shots on-goal.

Defensive Player of the Week - University of New England junior Jolena Lampron (Lyman, Maine) helped the Nor’easters to a 1-1 week. She picked up seven groundballs and corralled nine draws over the two contests, while also causing eight turnovers. Her bigger game this week came in an 18-9 win over Southern Maine in which she collected four groundballs, five draw controls, and caused five turnovers.

Rookie of the Week - Curry’s Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) started her collegiate career with an eight-point week. In her debut, she put away four tallies, including two on free position attempts, as the Colonels defeated Salem State, 15-9. She had two goals against Lasell in her second contest before recording a goal and an assist against Becker to close out the week. She was extremely efficient on offense as she converted on 46.7 percent (7-for-15) of her shots, while putting all but one of them on goal. Defensively, she recovered six ground balls, secured eight draw controls, and caused three turnovers.

Softball

Other 2017 Softball Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Salve Regina’s Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.) found her power stroke early this season as she hit home runs in each of the Seahawks’ three contests to open the year. In the season opener against Johnson and Wales, the sophomore had a three-hit game including a solo shot to lead off the second inning. She followed that up with another three-hit game down in Florida in an 11-3 win over Saint Benedict. She closed out the week with a two-run bomb against RPI. For the week Woznick batted .636 with three home runs and five RBIs, while striking out only once.

Pitcher of the Week - Junior Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) had a busy week in the circle for Eastern Nazarene. She posted a 3-1 record with a 0.66 ERA as the Lions opened the season by going 7-3. Gomez made five appearances this week including four starts. In her first appearance she tossed a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Clark, while striking out eight. She followed that up with another complete game performance against Rivier in which she recorded 10 K’s. The junior hurler tossed her second scoreless outing of the season in start number three, surrendering only two hits and striking out five in a run-rule win over Wheelock. After earning her third win of the week against Geneva, a two-run, eight strikeout performance, Gomez closed out the week with seven innings of relief work against Dominican.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman pitcher Alexis Ferris (Holyoke, Mass.) had a brilliant start to her collegiate career in the circle for Nichols. She opened the year with a 12 strikeout, complete game shutout over Rivier, while only allowing two hits and walking two. She also had a double-digit strikeout performance two days later as she struck out 10 in a 2-1 win over Salem State. This week Ferris fanned 29 batters in just 22 innings. She had a 0.95 ERA and went 2-1 overall.

Men's Tennis

Other 2017 Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Winners

Player of the Week - Eastern Nazarene senior Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) posted an 8-1 combined record this week as the Lions went 4-1 in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Steelman saw action in both the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions and competed on the No. 3 doubles pair. He dropped only a single set this week as he fell in the second set against Bridgewater (Va.) in a tiebreaker.

Rookie of the Week - Freshman Guiherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) had a big week for Nichols as the Bison went 3-0. He picked up five individual wins, going 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles. He played in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions, while competing at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
