Baseball

 

Player of the Week - Western New England University junior second baseman Eduardo Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) batted .435 (10-for-23) with two doubles, one triple, six RBI and three runs scored, as the Golden Bears turned in a 5-3 weekly record, including a 5-1 mark against CCC competition. Colmenares hit safely in seven games, reached base in all eight contests and logged three multiple-hit performances.  He also drew four bases on balls to register a .500 weekly on-base percentage.

Pitcher of the Week - Curry College senior Thomas Fitzpatrick (So. Boston, Mass.) went the distance in the Colonels’ five-hit, 1-0 victory over Western New England in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Against the CCC’s highest-scoring team in conference play, Fitzpatrick struck out two and walked two.  Earlier in the week, Fitzpatrick tossed a scoreless inning in an 8-2 victory over Bridgewater State.  He tossed eight scoreless innings over the course of the week.

Rookie of the Week - Roger Williams University sophomore infielder Matt Moskal (Hamden, Conn.) played a key role in the Hawks’ 6-0 week which included doubleheader sweeps of CCC rivals Eastern Nazarene and Nichols.  In six games, Moskal batted .368 (7-for-1) with six RBI, three walks, four runs scored and a stolen base. He chalked up four hits in a the twinbill against Nichols and added two in a 6-1 win over UMass-Boston.

Golf

 

Golfer & Rookie of the Week - Western New England University freshman John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) was the only CCC golfer to win a tournament last week, as he fired a one-over par 73 to earn medalist honors and lead the Golden Bears to the team title at the WNE Invitational.  Abbott also competed in the JWU Invitational and was WNE’s top golfer, tying for 13th place among 104 individuals with a 36-hole score of 154 (78-76).

Men's Lacrosse

 

Offensive Player of the Week - Endicott College senior attackman Nick Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) continued his solid play for the Gulls in a 2-1 week. In a 23-11 victory over Gordon, Pinciaro scored five goals, picked up two ground balls and added an assist. In a critical 19-9 triumph over CCC foe Western New England, he collected six points on three goals and three assists. Earlier in the week, in a 22-6 setback against #2 regionally ranked Tufts, Pinciaro picked up two ground balls.

Defensive Player of the Week - Endicott College junior goalkeeper Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) collected 32 saves in a 2-1 week for the #5 regionally ranked Gulls. In a 23-11 win over Gordon, Bell had 12 saves. In a 19-9 victory over #12 regionally ranked Western New England, he had 10 saves. In a 22-6 loss against NESCAC foe Tufts, Bell had 10 saves.

Women's Lacrosse

 

Offensive Player of the Week - Western New England University senior attack/midfielder Kaitlynn Stevens (Stratford, Conn.) collected 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears. In an 18-13 win over Roger Williams, Stevens scored six goals, dished out three assists, won three draw controls, caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls. In a 15-12 victory over Endicott, she collected nine points on three goals and six assists. In a 15-11 setback against Williams, Stevens scored three goals, passed for five assists, won seven draw controls and picked up a ground ball.

Defensive Player of the Week - Western New England University senior goalkeeper Emily Castleman (Wilbraham, Mass.) collected 44 saves in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears. In an 18-13 win over Roger Williams, Castleman had 17 saves. In a 15-12 triumph over Endicott, she had a career-best 20 saves posting a 62.5% save percentage. In a 15-11 loss to Williams, she had seven saves. On the week, Castleman averaged a 55% save percentage.

Softball

 

Player of the Week - Western New England University senior second baseman Samantha Mulhern (Worcester, Mass.) batted .500 (15-for-30) with four home runs, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and a perfect 4-for-4 showing in stolen base attempts to lead the Golden Bears to a 7-1 weekly record, all against CCC completion.  In addition to posting a .933 slugging percentage and fielding all of her 32 total chances successfully, Mulhern hit safely in seven of her eight games, chalking up a pair of two-hit games and a pair of four-hit games in the process.  WNE swept doubleheaders from Gordon, Curry and Wentworth, while earning a split with Salve Regina.

Pitcher of the Week - Endicott College junior Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) posted an impressive 5-0 weekly record with a 0.68 ERA and four complete games over 31 total innings of work, while walking just one batter and striking out 18.  Blake held opposing teams scoreless in her first four outings of the week, holding Wentworth to just two hits in 11 innings over two games, tossing a four-hit shutout against Lesley and a five-hit shutout over University of New England.  She gritted out a second complete-game win over UNE, 4-3.

Rookie of the Week - Endicott College freshman third baseman Margaret Martzolf (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) batted .313 (5-for-16) with a double, two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored in seven games played. Martzolf hit safely in six of her seven games played last week, tallying a pair of two-hit games along the way.

Men's Tennis

 

Player of the Week - Nichols College senior Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) earned three straight-set victories at number one singles and teamed with two different partners to compile a 2-1 mark at first doubles in a 3-0 week for the Bison.  Roode helped Nichols lock up the second seed in the upcoming CCC Championship with victories over Wentworth (9-0), Eastern Nazarene (7-2) and Endicott (9-0).

Rookie of the Week -Nichols College freshman Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) improved to 14-0 in singles play with three victories at #6 singles that helped the Bison extend their winning streak to five matches heading into the final week of regular-season play.  DuBois also split a pair of matches at first doubles with partner Brandon Roode.
